Banning under 16’s from social media is now a reality in some countries, and in many others, there is a trending conversation on following suit. In Australia, where the ban was first implemented around 7 months ago, it’s estimated that between 70-80% of teens continue to access the banned platforms. On this podcast we discuss whether the ban is an admission of failure to address the real issues of illegal and inappropriate content, addiction, bullying and such like. Without addressing the core issues whether the firehouse of social media content hitting a new user at 16 will be overwhelming. And whether Legislation that is complex to implement and does not address the root cause of the issue has any true value.
